Musical Fidelity sold to Audio Tuning Vertriebs GmBH

May 8, 2018

On 8 May 2018, company founder Anthony Michaelson sold Musical Fidelity to Audio Tuning Vertriebs GmBH of Austria, marking a new direction for the iconic British company.

Still on board in a design capacity, Michaelson has sold the iconic Musical Fidelity brand in a manner that protects its name, prestige and heritage for years to come.

Audio Tuning is owned by Heinz Lichtenegger, the hi-fi visionary who founded the world-famous audio company, Pro-Ject Audio Systems. By purchasing Musical Fidelity, Lichtenegger has ensured that the company stays in the hands of an audio-focused company. Audio Tuning was also the distributor of Musical Fidelity products in Austria for more than 20 years, ensuring that there is a reliable and informed service and support structure already in place on which to build the brand.

The future vision for Musical Fidelity is to grow with new products and push into new markets, while still retaining the sound quality, reliability and striking industrial design that helped make the brand such an influential part in the annals of hi-fi history. To help facilitate that vision, key design staff have been retained by Audio Tuning, and the existing factory will continue to be used.
