Warranty and Repair

MF give a one year parts and labour warranty on all their upgrade work. Obviously this warranty does not apply to parts which haven’t been changed or modified during the upgrade. We hope that the lengthy soak test procedure after the upgrade work will make sure any potential failures are weeded out.

A short note on problems created by other people’s “upgrading” efforts. This is a real problem for us. Once somebody has been inside the amplifier and carried out modification work which may or may not be the cause of the subsequent failure we have a big problem. When you repair a product you must replace the damaged components but, almost inevitably, there will be a cause of those component failures. Now we’re in very tricky territory. Once a product has been modified the question is exactly what has been modified and or damaged in the process. Trying to unravel the mess left by “upgraders” is very time-consuming and costly. Because MF mostly uses double-sided plated through whole pcbs (the highest quality types) removing and replacing components can easily damage the delicate pcb tracks.

We’ve had some real horror stories trying to sort out the messes left by “upgraders”. Usually the best solution is to strip the pc back and replace all the active components. This is immensely costly in time and effort.

Reluctantly we have concluded that once one of our products has been modified by anyone other than Musical Fidelity we will not repair or service that unit.

Please be careful of your valuable Musical Fidelity product. It’s very easy for other people to promise upgrades which result in the product being made useless because it is beyond economic repair.
Caveat emptor! Buyer beware!
